Soil, peat, and coco mulch hardens and compacts over time. This happens as the soil or media is watered; each particle gets closer to the others and air pores are shrunk or eliminated. When this happens, water will not drain through the grow media very well and air will not easily penetrate. Each Pahroc Giant perlite particle has a unique shape that won’t pack down, preventing soil compaction. With lighter grow media, roots can easily expand and absorb oxygen, water and nutrition as needed by the plant. Without oxygen, roots fail to expand or grow, and they may contract various diseases due to a lack of oxygen and overabundance of moisture. Healthy roots mean greater yield and better-tasting crops. Our perlite ore is fully expanded creating larger and lighter particles with innumerable open cavities and crevices on the surface area. Extra care is given in sizing and screening our finished products reducing dust in each bag produced and giving the consumer exactly whats needed to have success. Particles of perlite consist of glass bubbles of trapped air which act as millions of tiny insulators. These enable perlite to be used both as a shield against excess heat gain and as an envelope to help store heat inside from leaking out. When used as a surface or lining product, large, chunky perlite acts as an insulator effectively reducing relatively high ambient air temperatures from transferring into the soil or media. In most horticultural applications, perlite will last indefinitely and is reusable. Nutrient-rich water is attracted to the small crevices in the perlite particles, and this capillary feature is why it can also provide moisture to your plants as well as aide in providing oxygen.
